On and Around the Greens

By Tony Bryan

To all you Golfing enthusiasts who can't wait for the next round in the hope that your game will improve this time!

Well, I've been there and done that—with all the trimmings!

Isn't it a beast when you're close to the green after two shots (on a par 4) but get down in 6! Until I realised that on and around the greens is where most shots are lost I was in the same boat.

Realisation came when playing to the green (about 10 yards away) on a downhill lie. I wasn't standing at 90 degrees to the slope of the ground. Having played this sort of shot before I often wondered why I was topping the ball and not getting the bottom of the club to the bottom of the ball. I was not standing correctly.

I now make sure that I am always at 90º to the slope of the ground whether it be uphill or downhill.

Next time YOU are in this situation, remember what I've said: always place your body at right angles to the ground and that way you'll get the bottom edge of the club to the bottom of the ball, which is where it should be.

Happy golfing!
